Seven Cozen O'Connor Attorneys Recognized by the South Florida Legal Guide

Seven Cozen O'Connor attorney have been honored by the South Florida Legal Guide for their work in South Florida for the last year. Susan Eisenberg, James Gale, Jeffrey Gilbert, Charles Kline, Samuel Lewis, and Jennifer Taylor Williams were named Top Lawyers. Matthew Horowitz was recognized in the category Top Up and Comer.

Eisenberg is a member of the firm’s Labor & Employment department and managing partner of the Miami office. She is Board Certified in Labor and Employment Law and has more than 25 years of experience representing employers in all aspects of employment matters. She is widely recognized as one of the leading employment law attorneys in Florida. She has extensive jury and non-jury trial experience involving sex, race, religion, age and disability harassment, and discrimination issues. She also litigates non-compete and confidentiality issues as well as accessibility issues under the Americans with Disabilities Act. She regularly handles single plaintiff as well as class-action litigation. She is also widely known for her experience with wage and hour issues and is one of the authors of the premiere treatise titled The Fair Labor Standards Act. Eisenberg is a founding member of the Wage and Hour Defense Institute and a Fellow of the College of Labor and Employment Lawyers.

Gale, a member of the firm’s Intellectual Property department, focuses his practice in the area of intellectual property counseling and litigation with more than 30 years of experience. He is a registered patent attorney and Board Certified in Intellectual Property by the Florida Bar. He has represented clients in hundreds of cases involving patents, trademarks, copyrights, unfair competition, covenants not to compete, theft of trade secrets, and internet disputes. He has appeared in more than 400 federal cases in more than 48 Federal District and Circuit Courts, as well as handled hundreds of injunctions in over 35 different states around the nation.

Gilbert, a member of the firm’s Commercial Litigation department, is an experienced litigator representing developers, real estate lenders, financial institutions, REITs, special servicers, and receivers in all aspects of construction, property, and commercial financial disputes. He, on behalf of nationwide lenders and servicers, has foreclosed mortgage liens on highly visible properties located throughout Florida, including resort hotels, golf course developments, and downtown office buildings. He litigates significant commercial tenancy cases on behalf of owners and landlords, as well as defending civil and criminal usury and lender liability claims and counterclaims. He also litigates probate, estate, trust, and fiduciary cases, and land use and zoning disputes. In addition, he represents electronics and cellular clients, including prosecuting claims under the Telephone Consumer Protection Act. He also represents investment advisers in SEC enforcement actions, and SEC and NASD registered corporations in administrative and court proceedings. He also handles mediations and national and international arbitrations.

Horowitz, an associate in the firm’s Intellectual Property department, is a registered patent attorney who focuses his legal practice on intellectual property litigation and prosecution. Horowitz has experience in the fields of consumer products, medical and mechanical devices, and blockchain technologies. He has represented clients in cases involving patents, trademarks, copyrights, unfair competition, covenants not to compete, trade secret misappropriation, and domain name disputes.

Kline, a member of the firm’s Commercial Litigation department, focuses his practice on complex commercial and international litigation. He offers more than 40 years of experience in representing clients in jury and non-jury trials in state and federal courts in Florida and other jurisdictions, and conducting arbitrations under the rules of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) and the American Arbitration Association (AAA).

Lewis, a member of the firm’s Intellectual Property department, focuses his practice on intellectual property litigation and transactional matters involving computer, technology, and internet-related issues. He has represented a wide variety of clients including motion picture companies, photographers, internet and computer-related companies, health care providers, and various other corporations seeking to secure rights, protect their intellectual property, and defend their rights on the internet. He has also served as outside general counsel to a variety of corporations. His background as a photojournalist and computer software developer enables him to combine a practical understanding of content creation and a technical perspective to find solutions for his clients.

Williams, a member of the firm’s Labor & Employment department, has focused exclusively on representing management in all facets of labor and employment law for more than 20 years. She represents employers in labor and employment litigation before federal and state courts as well as administrative agencies, including the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and the Department of Labor. She has extensive experience in litigating a full-range of employment disputes, including individual and class action wage/hour claims, disability, age, gender, and race discrimination and harassment matters, and retaliatory discharge. She also regularly litigates disputes involving employment contracts, as well as non-compete and confidentiality agreements.
