Maura Avington

Policy Adviser, Cozen O’Connor Public Strategies

Maura supports the government relations professionals of our New York practice at both the state and local levels. In this role, she researches and monitors legislation, analyzes policy, oversees public hearings, and tracks media coverage.

Before joining the firm, Maura worked for NYC Health and Hospitals and served as the legislative director for Assemblywoman Stacey Pheffer Amato in Rockaway Beach, New York, focusing on legislation related to environmental protection, small business, and health care. She has also interned for U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.), U.S. Representative Grace Meng (D-N.Y.), and New York State Assemblywoman Nily Rozic (D-Queens).

Originally from the Philadelphia area, Maura served as a finance and digital media fellow, aiding local and congressional Democratic campaigns in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. She also worked as a legislative fellow for the Philadelphia City Council.

Maura graduated magna cum laude from St. John’s University with a B.A. in political science and an M.A. in public administration. She has lived in Queens since 2015 and is committed to engaging in local politics and contributing to her community.
